You may know me as Kate Swartz, however I’ve recently gone back to my maiden name Anand.

I have been in the hair game since 1998 celebrating my 28th year doing hair. I opened my own studio with @citizen.salon.studios in Greenwich village, November of 2024. I’m a single mother of 19 year old twins, an animal lover, and my neurodivergence is my super power.

K8MASTERSTYLIST is a safe non judgemental space for all. I am happy to accommodate special needs, sensory issues etc. I understand the anxiety, and have a single studio to do so. Any concerns,  just let me know ahead of time. I’m happy to help guide you thru your post chemo grow outs, and help you get thru general growing pains of growing out a short cut. I wear my heart on my sleeve and pride myself in my relationships with all my guests. You are more than your hair to me.

I’m highly versed in all types of hair, however, I no longer accept NEW long hair guests, unless the goal is going shorter. Questions? Just ask me.

My passion lies in short textured haircuts. I adore creating, correcting and balancing short cuts. Having had short hair myself, most of my life, I truly understand what it means to have a good short haircut, that grows out well.

I offer, (by appt) lower cost “cleanups” and “half haircuts” in between full haircuts to extend the life of your style. I am truly confident in short hair and love creating looks that complement your maintenance level, lifestyle, age, hair texture, and face shape.

I’m into low maintenance hair color, specializing in gray blending to keep things soft and your returns to the chair less frequent. However, if you want fun, bold, not “natural” color, I’ve got you covered too.

I also specialize in cap highlights. Yes, cap highlights!! It’s a great option for short hair that cannot be blended down the sides with traditional foiling techniques. Natural, bold, it’s all customizable. Questions? Ask me.
